The groundbreaking ceremony for the Gallant's Channel replacement bridge project will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 11:00 AM.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is increasing capacity and reducing delays with a new US-70 bridge over Gallant's Channel. US-70 will be 4-lanes wide and a median. The bridge is schedule for use by Summer of 2018 with final details finished by January, 2019.
This new fixed span bridge will replace the Grayden Paul Bridge, a 2-lane, bascule bridge (often called a drawbridge) built in 1957.
Venue: Gallant's Channel Annex
The Gallant's Channel Annex is the preferred venue for large outdoor events hosted by the North Carolina Maritime Museum.
Also, the Friends of the North Carolina Maritime Museum invites transient vessels and historically significant craft to visit the Gallants Channel Annex, museum’s expansion site.
The facility has deep water wharves running some 1,500’, floating docks with 10 slips, and a 100’ face dock. The Friends of the Museum is offering short term dockage rates of just $1/foot per night, or $10/foot per month. Water and power are available but there are no shore side facilities at this time. There is ample parking on site. Located less than a mile from the AICW the protected site has plenty of water depth, and is just north Beaufort’s Front Street.
